We recently looked at different types of blackjack games to play when casinos re-open. Some will never leave the felt and live dealer games while others are considering switching to machines. What if you could have an experience that is sort of a combination?
Plexiglass Blackjack Table Dividers
Over the weekend @JoeTall shared a video of a sneeze guard for blackjack tables. This is a live dealer blackjack game but the plexiglass table dividers can almost make it feel as though you’re playing a machine. Take a look.

Joe (Tall) Bunevith says this video was recorded by a friend at Margaritaville Casino in Bossier City, Louisiana.
The plexiglass separators act similar sneeze guards at buffets. They’ll keep players and dealers from releasing most particles from their mouths on one another. However, playing blackjack will essentially remain the same with chips, real cards, and players using hand signals if they want to hit or stay.
This device isn’t a total game-changer but it’s an option for casinos looking for a way to keep blackjack games similar to the way they used to be played. This guard may stop the spread of germs directly from someone’s mouth. However, germs and viruses can still be passed by players touching cards or chips.
Bunevith told Fox 5 Las Vegas, “We’re at this really strange part where we’re going to have to bring consumers in, the ones that have been with us for a long time, and we also have to drive out some fear of the ones we’re trying to attract.”
Personally, I don’t think I’d sit at a table game that uses this device. Playing table games (blackjack or otherwise) is a social affair for me. I almost always only play blackjack with friends. We like to drink and have yap at one another. I’m not sure we’d be able to have the same experience playing at a table with this kind of divider.
Venetian Clean Plan
Last week we shared information from the Wynn Resorts Health & Sanitation Guide for when their properties reopen. This week, Las Vegas Sands released its Venetian Clean plan for when the Las Vegas property re-opens.
This plan intentionally has less detail than the Wynn guide. The information revealed in Venetian Clean is a summary of 800 protocols they plan to implement in Las Vegas. For example, every door will have a thermal camera to detect the temperature of every visitor. Anyone with a temperature will be subject to a second test.
As it relates to gambling Venetian Clean offers the following:
To ensure a pristine Venetian Clean experience, we utilize dedicated staff to disinfect our casino areas around the clock, including table game areas, slot machines, electronic kiosks, and chairs. Our casino chips are disinfected at each table approximately every two hours, with additional sanitation procedures in place throughout the day. In addition, slot machines and chairs are arranged to allow for appropriate distancing, and table games have a maximum of three chairs per table, under current guidelines.
It does not appear as though The Venetian will use the table guard above. Rather they will clean often and limit the number of players at each game. This and the Wynn guidelines are good starts towards casinos opening again.
