Last year, Scientific Games introduced its SG Vision technology at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E). The innovative suite of technology offers a variety of new and unique products for casinos including facial recognition and augmented reality. The company even won an award for SG Vision.
One item that stands out a year later is an augmented reality blackjack table game. Augmented reality isn’t a term you hear often inside of a casino. This form of technology is interactive and adds something new to an already existing experience.
Scientific Games wasn’t the only company to reveal some kind of enhanced table game at G2E last year. However, it was one of the more impressive options available. Some of the versions of this technology simply spruced up the appearance of a blackjack table. SG Vision is a bit more advanced.
Augmented Reality Games
Pokemon Go might be a good example if you’re not familiar with augmented reality. This was an extremely popular augmented reality game for mobile phones. Much like other fads, Pokemon Go isn’t quite as popular even though it still available.
In this game, Pokemon creatures can be seen through a mobile phone screen that uses real-life outdoor locations. Players collect the creatures scattered throughout various locations in the real world.
The augmented reality blackjack game from Scientific Games don’t involve mobile technology. In fact, the game is quite different and might seem rudimentary in comparison to Pokemon Go.
SG Vision Blackjack
The SG Vision blackjack game isn’t the same technological experience as Pokemon Go. However, it does offer a new experience at the blackjack table.
The SG Vision blackjack game includes a projector and camera on a regular table. The projector adds various images to the felt of the blackjack table. There’s a camera that senses player movements based on the visuals shown by the projector on the blackjack table itself. It also reads the chips placed on the betting circles.
The demonstration of this game includes the Blazing 7’s blackjack side bet as well as a Cash Spin bonus feature. When this bonus wheel appears, the camera reads the motion of the player so they can spin the projected wheel right on the table.
How SG Vision Blackjack Works
The projector and sensor work together as players place wagers on the table. There’s even a visual reminder for players to place a bonus bet so the player can qualify for the Blazing 7’s bonus and potential Cash Spin. The camera will detect the bets after the money is placed. At this time the dealer will deliver the cards to the players.
The camera reads the cards as they’re dealt to the players. Any seven that qualifies for a bonus is illuminated on the table by the projector. This is a bit different than the Blazing 7’s bonus in casinos today.
In this demo, the player receives three 7’s and qualifies for a Cash Spin to see what bonus they will receive. The Cash Spin wheel appears right on the table and the player spins the projected wheel for their bonus. This player won the progressive jackpot but various prizes are available based on the rules of the game.
This is pretty simple but offers a visually different blackjack experience.
