One way blackjack players can mix things up and keep from getting bored is to try something new. This could be learning a new game, basic strategy or a card counting technique.
Or you can take a much simpler approach and just change your surroundings. One way to do that would be to switch casinos and play on different software. Another option would be to try something like live dealer blackjack, where instead of playing against (or seeing) no one, you are sitting in front of a real person that is dealing the action. And possibly sit down next to other players.
However, not every casino has live dealer games. But what they might have instead are 3D blackjack games. That’s what I want to talk with you more about now. If you’re ready to play right now, we have our top 3D rooms listed below. Just take your pick to get started now. Otherwise, you can continue reading on to learn more about 3D blackjack and why you should consider trying it.
What is 3D Blackjack?
3D blackjack is a more realistic version of your standard online blackjack game. Instead of a flat, birds-eye view of the table, the table is angled more to look like you’re sitting at it. The cards, the chips and table will have more substance to it, more depth.
The level of 3D-ness will vary from site to site. What I mean is that some 3D blackjack games will be enhanced versions of a standard online game. The camera angle will be different, there will be more depth and there might even be animations, such as you peeling up the corner of your cards to see what you have.
However, the best 3D casinos will take things a step further. PKR Casino is a good example. What they have is a true 3D casino in every sense of the word. It mirrors a live dealer casino in that there is a (3D) dealer, full-bodied avatars for each player and an entire casino themed background.
But it’s not just about the looks. It’s about the movement, too. In their casino players will tap the table to hit, wave their arms to stand and the dealers will make hand signals like they do in a real casino. They will deal and pick up the cards, too.
So my point here, other than to explain to you what 3D blackjack is, is to show you that there are varying degrees of realness. Some 3D casinos are prettied up versions of their non-3D counterparts, and on the other side of the spectrum you have what is the equivalent to a video game.
Why Play 3D Blackjack?
I suggest giving 3D blackjack a shot because it’s more realistic. The bright lights, chatting, sounds of sirens and human interaction is all apart of the brick and mortar casino experience. Most of that is lost in your traditional online blackjack game. But you get a little bit of that back playing in a live dealer or 3D game. If anything it’s a change of scenery.
3D blackjack games are also good alternatives to live dealer games. Live dealer games are still not that common, even in Europe and the UK. And US players have hardly (if any) live dealer options. So 3D casinos are the next best thing.
Ultimately, you’re either into 3D and realistic games or you’re not. I can see a couple of downsides to them, too. If they’re available by download the files are going to be bigger and will take up more resources, depending on how advanced the 3D game is. From watching hands being dealt it looks like the action is slower, too, much like a real blackjack game. So I think it depends on if you just want to get through as many hands as possible, or if you want to take your time and enjoy yourself.
Play 3D Blackjack on Your Mobile Device
What I found to be surprising is that it’s possible to play 3D blackjack on your mobile device. This surprised me because many casinos have yet to embrace the mobile revolution. But some casinos are taking the bull by the horn and making it possible to pay 3D and live dealer games while on the go.
The best example for international players is, yet again, PKR. They launched their 3D blackjack app in September of 2012, just in time for the release of the iPhone 5. A month later they released their real money version. Both received rave reviews.
However, not everyone will be able to play 3D blackjack on their phone or tablet — namely US players. So what you can do instead is perform a search in the Google Play or Apple app store. The few apps that I came across looked like outdated video games, but they still had the 3D element to them nonetheless. And beggars cannot be choosers, right?! You can pick these apps up for free or for as much as $5.
US Players Have Few Play Real Money 3D Blackjack
Unfortunately, US players are going to get the short end of the 3D blackjack stick. The one option that they do have is Drake Casino. They have 3D blackjack games, and they’re available on your phone and tablet. I tested it out on my iPhone and thought it was ok. Very basic, but better than nothing.
Other than that, though, if you want to play 3D games you may have to resort to slots. These are more common than 3D blackjack games. You can find these at Bovada and Drake Casino for real money. Alternatively, US players can play 3D blackjack, slots or whatever else they want for play money at international casinos that will let them sign up.
