American Express rounds off the trifecta of credit cards that online casinos accept. They would come in last if there were actually a race, though, as they’re the least commonly accepted credit card of the three. The other two being Visa and MasterCard.
Amex’s business evolves around credit, debit, prepaid and gift cards, as well as traveler’s checks. Their business accounts for 24% of the total volume of credit card transactions made in the US. Amex is the 22nd most valuable company in the world, valued at nearly $15 billion dollars. In fact, they actually brought in more revenue than MasterCard in 2012, both in total and net revenue.
I point this stuff out merely because if you haven’t heard of them before, maybe now you’ll want to learn more and possibly use their services to fund your blackjack account. That’ll be the point of this page; to show you what casinos accept Amex, how to get one of their credit/debit cards, use it to deposit and the pros and cons of using their services. How to Get Started with Amex
Before you can make a deposit with your Amex card you’ll need to have (or get) one first. That’s not something we can help you with (much). You’ll need to go to your bank, or find a bank that uses American Express, and sign up for an account. For a credit card, you’ll need to apply for credit. Whether or not you can get a card will depend on your credit score and other factors.
On a side note, if you don’t already have an Amex card, I wouldn’t recommend going out and getting one. At least not for the sole purpose of playing blackjack online. Visa and MasterCard are just as good and are more common at online casinos in comparison. Chances are that you already have one of these cards, too.
Aside from a debit or credit card, you can also sign up for an Amex prepaid card. Just visit their site to learn more. This is a good alternative if you’re ineligible for their other cards. Just be sure that the casino you want to sign up to accepts prepaid cards. You might also have to check with them to see if there are restrictions on the types of prepaid cards they accept i.e. MasterCard vs. Visa vs. American Express.
How to Make Deposits and Withdrawals Using Amex
Depositing with Amex is simple. What you need to do is go to the cashier, choose Amex/American Express and then input your card number, expiration date and the 3 digit card found on the back of your card. Then enter how much you want to deposit, a code if you have it, and then hit submit. Your funds should be available to you within minutes.
Regarding withdrawals, it doesn’t look like Amex will be an option. So you’ll have to find a secondary option; either an e-check, paper check, bank wire or withdrawal to an e-wallet, if available.
Amex Fees
There shouldn’t be an fees to making a deposit with American Express. And since you can’t use it for withdrawals, whether or not you’ll have to pay fees will depend on what option you use.
Advantages and Disadvantages
The following are some advantages and disadvantages to using American Express to fund your blackjack account.
Advantages
- Play real money blackjack instantly. Your deposit should be approved and available for play within minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 5 minutes for a credit card deposit to clear.
- Pay no fees for deposits.
- American Express is a safe company. They’re not a fly-by-night outfit. I’d worry more about the casino you’re signing up to than whether or not to use Amex.
- You have multiple options. You can get a credit or debit card, or load up a prepaid card.
Disadvantages
- Not readily available. American Express isn’t as common as Visa or MasterCard.
- Can’t withdraw winnings to Amex. E-wallets don’t pay out to American Express either.
